In the Orthodox tradition this type of icon of the Mother of God is known as ‘Eleousa’, a Greek word meaning tenderness or lovingkindness. The Greek letters on either side of the figures are Greek abbreviations for ‘Mother of God’ and ‘Jesus Christ’.
A Quiet Space
In the quiet space at the back of the church we now have an icon of Mary (the church's patron saint) and the Christ child, donated by congregation-member Andrew Paterson, who painted it in 2018.
