St Mary's Scottish Episcopal Church Birnam

The 1st of September to the 4th of October is officially the season of creation in the church calendar.

St Mary’s celebrates creation all year round, paying particular attention to it during our harvest festival service. This year that will be on the 29th of September. The church building will be decorated with traditional fruits, vegetables, garlands and wheat sheaves, reminding us of how fortunate we are in our nation and community to be able to grow and harvest our food with a certain amount of assuredness that it will be a good harvest most years. this year St Mary’s is inviting our community members who volunteer at ‘The Field’ to come and be thanked for their hard work.

We are also collecting food for our local food bank and food share table. For the food bank, please donate tins of meat or fish, which are very useful to families, plus pasta or rice, tea and coffee, sugar, salt, etc. Please bring your items to the service and they will be put at the front of the altar and blessed before being taken to the food bank.

For the food share table, please donate any food that is about to be out of date! The whole idea of this initiative is never to waste good food that others could use on the day. Just put your donations onto the food share table outside of the church building. Then, if you see anything you might use, take it and enjoy!!!
